FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR NASACORT AQ
What are allergens?
Allergens are things that make you sneeze when you breathe them in. They are harmless
and are so small, you need a microscope to see them. Another name for an allergen
is a trigger. You may have heard of some of them:
Pollen
Mold
Dust mites
Animal dander (cats and dogs)
Cockroaches
Why am I allergic to them?
Your body is very sensitive to allergens. When you breathe them in, your body tries
to fight them off. You’ll start to sneeze a lot, and get a runny, stuffy nose. That’s
called having an allergic reaction. There are 2 types of allergens: indoor and outdoor.
Which type of allergy do I have?
If you sneeze and get the sniffles when you’re around grass or trees, you may have
outdoor or seasonal allergies. Seasonal allergies are more likely to occur in the
spring or fall because that’s when plants, trees, and grass begin to bloom. And
that’s where you’ll find the allergy trigger pollen.
If you sneeze a lot and get a stuffy or runny nose when you dust or when you’re
near cats and dogs, then you may have indoor or year-round allergies. They’re called
that because allergens—dust, pet dander, even cockroaches—are around every day throughout
the year.
